Line is the most common and most simple essential element that can be found in graphic design. Since it is the oldest form of graphic from before symbols and letters were found. In ancient times, lines were used to communicate and convey messages. Until now when everything started to be digital and online, line keep used as a common form of design to deliver messages to others.

By acting as a border around other design elements or a divider between them, a line is used to add style, improve comprehension, create forms, and divide space. Other elements may also be aided in following a path by lines. As a result, some typeface designs are curved, round, etc.

Lines can also be used to create a grid system, which serves as the basis for design layout and controls how the material is shown on a page. They can be rules, down rules, or leaders when used alone to assist separate, organising, or emphasising text. Additionally, lines can be used by themselves or in conjunction with other graphic design components to define shapes, evoke textures, and establish patterns.

Although lines are essential for separating or directing other graphic design elements, they may also stand alone and function as the design itself. Take the previous Adidas logo as an example, which is composed of three strong diagonal lines.

The line can be shown with many different shapes, widths, lengths, and directions. They could be dotted, dashed, or solid. Additionally, lines can be shaped into a variety of forms. Lines can depict emotion; increases interest and mood by using a variety of shapes, patterns, textures, and colours.

Line’s hardness also determines the intensity of the line that the designer seeks to convey. A line can also add style, improve information or a paragraph, or even construct forms. It also gives a different feeling to the viewer from the line’s various textures.
